Situated just south of the stunning Butterfly Valley, the sleepy hamlet of Faralya is an idyllic retreat, where life continues at a relaxed pace.
And yet this rural haven lies just 9km from the popular seaside resort of Oludeniz, whose famous lagoon beach is one of Turkey's most photographed images and just 21km from the bustling harbour and market town of Fethiye. The international airport at Dalaman is 80km away and is served by regular flights from all major UK and European airports, as well as offering several daily links with Istanbul for those making connections from further afield.
In spite of Mandarin & Mango's rural setting, a hire car is not strictly necessary, for there is a local taxi and the dolmus service (up to 9 times per day depending on the season), which serves both Oludeniz and Fethiye, can be flagged down. Those hiring a car or using local taxis can reach the sandy beach of Kidrak in around 10 minutes, whilst Kabak beach is a similar distance in a four-wheel drive vehicle (or a 5-minute drive plus 15 minute walk). Confident swimmers can bathe off the rocks at Aktas, around 20-30 minutes walk away.
Culture vultures will be in their element, as there is a wealth of fascinating historical sites to be explore within the scope of a day's outing, from the atmospheric "ghost village" of Kayakoy to ancient sites including Tlos, Pinara, Xanthos, Letoon, Patara and Cadyanda.
